ASASI Internship Programme 2021

Summer 2021 (July – August)

23rd March

The ASASI Internship Programme is an initiative by KPUM spearheaded by the Human Rights and Activism Office (ASASI) portfolio. This internship programme focuses on human rights and activism in the legal profession, and aims to expose interns to relevant human rights matters at grass-root level as well as provide them with a platform to further their capabilities in contributing to social change. Our partners for ASASI include Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) drawn from civil society and law firms alike.

With 11 Partners specialising in a wide range of human rights work, there’s bound to be something that will catch your interest. Watch this page to keep posted on recent updates and valuable information such as our Partner’s Profile and Alumni Intern Testimonials.

Our featured 11 partners include:

  • Anti-Death Penalty Asia Network (ADPAN)
  • All Women’s Action Society (AWAM)
  • Center for Orang Asli Concerns (COAC)
  • Eliminating Death and Abuse in Custody Together (EDICT)
  • Enabling Her Power to Decide (EMPOWER)
  • Malaysian Centre for Constitutionalism and Human Rights (MCCHR)
  • Malik Imtiaz Sarwar

  • The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM)
  • Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM)

Our application closes on 23 March 2021.

How to Apply:

Our application process includes completing the application form that consists of 3 written-type questions and one 500 words essay (from a choice of two topics) alongside your CV. Following this, applicants will go through an interview with ASASI and potentially with the Partner at Partner’s discretion.

Additional Information:

The programme is open to law students (of all years including CLP/BTC) studying English law in the UK or Malaysia.

The internships are usually held during the summer period of July to August. However, depending on the flexibility of the Partner, they may be able to accommodate some leeway, i.e. from August to September. This can be discussed with the Partner after the candidate has been accepted.
